The Thinker on Being Thankful

Lately I have not found much to be thankful for in my life. It seems like someone in our house has been sick for the last month. My discontentment with living in Searcy remains. The search for a church home and being the "visitor" each week is on-going. And to top it off, making friends in a small town is hard! I've really had to dig deep to find joy and thankfulness in my life.

You know what I'm thankful for: Jim, Laura & Grant. I love my family. I love that Jim is very patient with me. I love how he loves our kids! I love that Laura is so smart and witty. I love that Grant smiles when he sees me and how he claps his hands when I say "yay!". I'm also thankful for my house that provides shelter and comfort, a secure job for Jim, a decent paying very part-time job for myself and cars that run. I am thankful for old friends. I am thankful because I know God has a purpose and a plan. And despite my "woes", I am thankful that I have a God who loves ME and I'm thankful for all the lessons I'm learning in this journey.

I am thankful and blessed beyond what I deserve. Your turn..what is one thing you are thankful for?

I'm throwing in some pictures for fun. Grant didn't enjoy the leaf pile all that much!

I am thankful for my wonderful family and friends. And for big girl underwear :).

I feel like you are me, five years ago. I pray that you are able to find a you, from five years ago. (Make sense?) Only after I got to know you and Jim and y'all invited us to your small group did I feel like I could make it in small town USA. You were just what I needed back then and I will be praying that a "Sara" pops up in your life.

Okay, what Dallas wrote is really sweet. You guys have been "those people" who made others feel welcome and included everywhere you go! You did the same for us in Knoxville, too. :)

You weren't kidding when you said Grant did not really like the leaves-hysterical! Cute pics anyways! I love the one of Laura in the leaf pile.

I am thankful for family and friends, too. I am thankful for a God who loves me and knows my needs even before I ask. I am thankful that there is a power in control much bigger than myself. Along those lines...I pray that I can develop a stronger devotional life; it's been lacking more and more over the last few years. I want to be more aware of and in tune with the Lord and His works all around us.

Well, I guess you got what I'm thankful for as well as a resolution! Ha.

Thanks for sharing. This morning I was feeling SO tired, and therefore just overall yuck and down in the dumps. Your blog has helped remind me that no matter what we have going on around us, there is always something to be thankful for and appreciative of. I am feeling thankful for sweet friends and our sweet (most of the time) baby girl.

I'm thankful for the joys of motherhood. I never thought it would be this great, but I love every day waking up to the sound of my sweet boy playing in his crib. I love his spontaneous hugs and kisses and his funny expressioins. God has so richly blessed me and I am ever amazed and grateful for these precious moments.

could we write what we would be thankful for? seriously, i am thankful for a healthy, precious baby girl. health is such a precious commodity (sp?), isn't it? your kids are precious, sara! and i can't remember if i posted, but their rooms are decorated so cute! i just finished putting christmas trees in each kids room. emily is pink, noah is blue & white, and katie's is lime green and torquoise. i'm thankful for the spirit of christmas!

I am thankful for gifted songwriters and singers who can lift my spirit with their beautifully written songs of praise to our great God! I'm recommending the Zoe Group's CD called Closer, which I've been listening to for the past few days. It's a couple of years old, but has some really powerful songs in it about how God remains the same through all the highs and lows of our lives. Check it out!

I am thankful for my healthy boys. It seems everyday lately I hear of fertility problems, miscarriages and very sick babies. I am so, so thankful for my healthy children.

I am sorry your discontentment with Searcy is persisting. Change is hard. No place is perfect. Not Knoxville, Nashville or Searcy. No church will ever be perfect. I am realizing this now. But, thankfully, God is in control and sees the big picture when we don't. Hang in there!

I am thankful for my wonderful husband and child!

I am also thankful for your friendship and hope Searcy will become a little easier in the next few months. Hang in there - I will be around more this next semester and we should get together more! I agree with Dallas also, you were the first person in Searcy who invited our family to Bible Study and from that we have some wonderful friendships. Small towns are hard but there are benefits too just keep looking for them to knock at your door! Love ya
