Go away, Ike! (Update)

UPDATE:
My parents lost several tops of their trees resulting in 5 holes in their roof. With the help of some neighbors and drive by entrepreneurs, the tree has been removed and the roof is patched. They will get a new roof, but that could take weeks.

My brother drove down from from Austin to help them with the clean up. Since it could be 2 or more weeks until there is power, my brother was lucky enough to find a generator in Austin. He literally bought it off the truck at Lowe's. Atleast now they can run a fan, the fridge, and a t.v.

It was a scary experience for them and we are all glad it is over with minimal structural damage.

Thanks for the prayers lifted on their behalf and others.

Since my parents, grandpa and aunt live 75 miles north of Galveston, Texas, they are in preparation right now for Hurricane Ike.

I'm worried as they are.

The winds are estimated to be 100 mph. Since their home is surrounded by lots of trees the main concern is down trees. Loss of electricity is gonna happen.

Please pray for all of those in harms way.

I'll be praying. They should take this time to come up to Searcy for a visit!

Know that I'm praying! And, I agree with Andrea, your parents are very cool. :)

I am so glad that your parents are okay! Troy's sister is here from Houston with all of their kids. Her husband stayed there since he is in the roofing business and he said they lost their fence, some of the roof and a big tree in their yard. They thought they were pretty lucky! My brother in law said it was the weirdest experience because the eye of the hurricane was right over him and he had no lines of communication..no Internet, no phone, no tv to watch the progress, and no phone except for his cell that only worked some of the time. He said that it was the weirdest thing when he walked out in the "eye" of the hurricane and everything was completely still with only the crickets and birds chirping but you could see all of the debris moving around him in complete black, but he looked up through the eye and saw perfectly clear sky. Crazy! I am so glad that your parents are okay too!

I have been thinking and wondering how they were doing. Sounds like prayers were answered - that they are ok. Houses can be fixed but loss of life cannot. Glad they are ok and can now start the process of repairing. Not fun I am sure!

Yikes! Sounds like they got hit pretty hard, even though I realize it could have been worse. I appreciate the update; I had been wondering how they were doing. I cannot imagine just how scary that was, and how frustrating for them to be without power for an indefinite amount of time. Keep us all updated. Very thankful for their safety. Love ya!
